March's Monthly Tip

It's  almost time to start those summer vegetable seedlings. Planting your first crop of seedlings indoors on March 15th affords you 4-6 weeks of establishing your first set of transplants in a coldframe before in the ground before the end of April. As for shrubs, trees, and perennials, get planting! The quicker they're in the ground, the more spring rains your plants will enjoy before summer's heat.

The Farmer's Favorites-- Epona and Oak--Raleigh, NC

Continuing my interest in promoting local businesses in the Triangle, I’d like to feature this month a new business called Epona and Oak that is located in Raleigh’s reborn City Market district.

Epona & Oak is a specialty boutique in downtown Raleigh that offers a fresh concept in wellness and shopping.  Owned and managed by the three Hynes sisters (Cheryl, Leeann, and Katie), they have pooled their personal talents and involvement in the local arts community to create a venue for a variety of health treatments along with consigned jewelry and other artwork on display and for sale.

Featuring the lines of independent designers and artists, the boutique carries home accessories, apparel for women and men, jewelry, handbags, gifts and paper goods. Nestled in the back of the store, Epona & Oak features a tranquil wellness studio that provides a wide array of massage therapies, acupuncture and energy work. The wellness studio also features handcrafted and organic bath, body, and facial care products.

Epona and Oak hopes to redefine your everyday shopping experience by offering you goods that were made by hand, that are not mass-produced, and that have done little damage to the environment with their production and by providing services that will help you relax and feel better physically and mentally. They are located at 329 Blake Street on the block south of Moore Square, and are open 10a-8p Monday through Saturday with only therapeutic appointments on Sundays. Drop by on your next downtown walk to view all their offerings…..and ask either of the sisters about the legend of Epona.

March's Garden Quote

March is a tomboy with tousled hair, a mischievous smile, mud on her shoes, and a laugh in her voice.
